Kaleidoscopic trips: "Earthstone Light"

This week's kaleidoscope goes way back to the beginning of my scope making days. If you have followed this series you may still spot some stylistic consistency regardless of the variety of materials. In this case we have a soapstone sculptural base that is carved and drilled to hold the brass tube of the kaleidoscope barrel, as well as the wheels that are stored in little pockets. The wheels are each constructed of two very thin pieces of clear glass which sandwhich various interesting flat, coloured, textured items. These are mostly taken from nature. I included petals and wings and leaves from various sources. Each wheel sandwhich was soldered into a recycled Indian glass bangle.

What I could not include in this post was the little brass oil lamp that I converted with an LED bulb. It sits in front of the barrel and you turn it on to set your view ablaze as you look through the eyepiece. Oh well! You guys will fill in the blanks with your imaginations!

Amazingly deep to look at, gets one lost in thought.(and I so still want one of these masterpieces!!)

Thanks! Indeed, I like to encourage that getting lost experience. You're funny... once I'm done this series you should tell me what you like best. ;)

Yes for sure I will keep an eye or two haha out for the rest in the series.. You work is quite amazing!!

Ha! Thanks my friend!

WOW! Your work is fabulous! So glad I came over. We have a collection of 3 we bought at auction. Have to be careful with them as they are leaded. That is really a beautiful piece.
May your blessings continue to flow!

No kidding! Sounds like you are familiar with the idea! Glad to hear of a collector!
Will post another one shortly... ;)
