Sunset Vector Drawing

in #art7 years ago

Well, not so much sailing today. We sailed into Baddeck yesterday evening and found a nice little spot to anchor. Everything looked good going to bed and in the morning we were to make another trip down to Iona.

But, we woke up to a bunch more rain than we thought there'd be. We waited out a bit of the morning until it seemed to be clearing up some. It was calling for more rain later in the afternoon, but we'd thought we could beat the majority of it down to Iona, about 14 nautical miles away. Thing is, as soon as we started out it began raining again. The weather apps we were looking at are not quite accurate I guess. To add to it, we were running low on gas and nothing is open close to the water to get gas on Sundays in Baddeck.

So we headed back to the little cove we were at last night and decided to stick out the day here and pick up some gas in the morning.

The plus side to this wrench in the plans is that I got to finish this vector drawing today while relaxing on the boat.

This is the view from the cottage I was staying at. I'm not sure when the next time I'll be up there to take in this view again, either. Could be years down the road or I could never be back there.

This drawing absolutely taxed Affinity Designer to the max on the iPad. I made a custom willow tree brush to do all the leaves on the big willow tree. I actually went out to the willow tree and grabbed a section of leaves then took a picture of it to make this brush. Every leaf section is a vector curve. After putting a few thousand leaves on the tree, it began to bog down the program. I had to hide the tree to finish the rest of the drawing so it wouldn't crash.

If I do anything like this again, I'll just move it over to the pc once I'm finished drawing to finish the colouring and gradients so I can have all the pieces of the drawing visible all the time.

Wow! This is awesome!

Thanks. I think I might put this one for sale on Etsy as a print. I'm sure some people that know that view might be interested.

I thought it was a photo! so realistic and magic!
how long were you doing it??
I know nothing of this sphere, so for me it's just magic;)

Well the trees took me a few hours to do. I'm not sure how long in total because I was just picking at it here and there. I'm glad you liked it.
