Oil painting. Where to start. Some recommendations

Hello dear Steemit friends,

Here are some of main recommendations/private experience on how (it is better) to start oil painting.

First of all, you need an easel and a palette (I prefer a wood one and I really enjoy working with a wood easel, very comfortable and easy to adjust level). Then you need a canvas (linen or cotton or both 45%/65%, etc), any solvent for oil (I use #2 or #4), the paintbrushes, oil (good to have main 12 colors) and a lot of paper of course.

Then as a traditional oil painting techniques often begin with the artist sketching the subject onto the canvas with charcoal or thinned paint. Please remember a basic rule of oil paint application - 'fat over lean', i.e. each additional layer of paint must contain more oil than the layer below to allow proper drying, if each additional layer contains less oil, the final painting might crack and peel.

Another oil painting techniques that I like very much is dry brush painting (I usually use brushes #16 or #18), it's also good to make some right / final effects.
