Advice from a Sherpa

Part 1 ) Preparing for an Adventure

Every day as children, we wake up ready to explore.
Each day holds new experiences and challenges,
Which push us out of our comfort zones,
Allowing us to try new things
And experience the world in a new way.
Whether it is our first trip to the grocery store
Or walking across the street to the park,
We bravely step into the unknown
Ready to face whatever comes our way.
Through our new experiences,
We grow as people,
We find out what we like,
And we begin to learn who we are and what we want.
We begin to dream.
And this is the beginning of our great adventure.

Part 2) The Beginning of an Adventure

The beginning of any adventure is exciting,
There are endless possibilities as to what could happen.
And a seemingly infinite amount of time for them to take place.
But as the open fields fade behind us,
The path narrows,
The trees thicken,
And the dark forest surrounds us.
What we once saw as endless possibilities,
What we once perceived as an infinite amount of time,
What was once our open field,
Has been hidden amongst the branches.
A fear settles in,
That maybe our path will only continue to narrow.

Part 3) The Middle of an Adventure

The middle of any adventure is what defines us.
There are no wrong decisions.
Each traveller must choose their own fate.
When we look at the path beneath our feet,
There are as many sets of tracks heading back
As there are marching forward.

Part 4) Friendly Advice from a Sherpa

The goal in life is not always to march forward.
The goal in life is to eventually find a path that you are willing to march forward on.
You are allowed to take as many adventures as you'd like,
Go down as many paths as you'd like
And turn back as many times as you'd like.
But when you find that path,
The one that really makes you wonder what's ahead.
March forward.

Since this is my first post, I'll introduce myself. My name is Shane, and I am a part time children's book writer/illustrator, part time life Sherpa, who lives in Calgary.
