Fine tuning this to find the perfect set-up for trekking and painting outdoors.
Consider this the MK 1.
At the moment I'm using acrylics cos they dry fast but I want to start using oils as the paint stays wet at least for the whole painting session allowing the mixing and blending of colours. Also the colours don't change when the paint dries which is a real problem with acrylics.
But currently I don't have a way of transporting wet paintings and as this set-up is designed for portability and being able to hike with it, it's a big consideration. As it is I'm able to fit the easel, paints, brushes, etc into a backpack and attach the tripod to the side.
I've drilled and bolted the lightweight desktop easel to my quick release tripod attachment and it's super lightweight and quick to erect. Brushes and art materials fit inside the box and anything else goes in my backpack. Small 10"x12" canvas boards or the ideal size for quick paintings on location.
I'd be really interested to see what your Plein Air painting set-up looks like and how you've tackled the problem of carrying wet paintings.
I understand the struggle to get a comfortable setup, this is very creative
It can lead to procrastination and it's stopped me going out and painting for a while now.
No chance of embarrassment or doing a bad painting if you never take the plunge. Right?
