Sold! "Swan Song"

in #art7 years ago

This weekend, I successfully stayed offline, as was my goal. However, it didn't hurt that we ended up going camping in the woods, away from my computer, and out of phone service range. We were at a festival called Mooseman, up near Minden, Ontario. It was a Burningman regional event. I can't remember if it's sanctioned or not, so if you're a Burner and happen to be reading this thinking "No it's not, you loon", whatever whatever.

It rained and rained and rained some more this weekend, so it ended up being a little less eventful this year. Most years, I go on a secret midnight hike with some super close friends, but the only dry night was Sunday, so we ended up missing them. They did a daytime jaunt on acid, and I stayed up until sunrise keeping one friend on a good trip. Not too much credit to me, though. I was already up super late at the last embers of the burnt effigy singing at the top of my lungs leading a circle of people in song. And my friend is super hilarious.

So after a long weekend of drinking too much, sleeping on a weird angle in a tent we raised in a ditch by accident, I came home to find out this little piece has sold at Artusiasm, the new gallery I've been showing at! Lovely news. What a nice way to end a nice weekend.

Now we bottle a batch of Shiraz at our favourite wine company. Happy Rachel!

Congratulations for 2 whole days offline!

How long did it take you to paint it ? I remembered a nice joke that's popular in Romania, the rough translation would be:

The apprentice was talking to the master painter. He posed the question: Master, why does it take 1 year for me to sell a painting ? The answer came: Because it took one day to paint. If it took one year, you would sell it in one day.

Thank you! I feel slightly less addicted to the net. Still pretty addicted, though.

This didn't take very long to paint. Maybe a day and a half. It's a small one, only 8x10". I like the joke though... I would almost say it's not really a joke, more of a piece of hard wisdom. :)
