The Raven symbolism

in #art7 years ago

Hi steemians, Saint Gabriel here ;) today I want to share with you a little bit of one of the subjects I enjoy the most, Symbolism, but what is symbolism? according to the dictionary it's an artistic and poetic movement or style using symbolic images and indirect suggestion to express mystical ideas, emotions, and states of mind. It originated in late 19th century France and Belgium, with important figures including Mallarmé, Maeterlinck, Verlaine, Rimbaud, and Redon.
So taking this into account, I'll exemplify the symbolism of one of my favorite beasts, this particular bird has been related to the mysticism since the Hellenic era, and has always had a niche among many of the western mythologies, I'm of course talking about the raven. But what does the Raven symbolize? First of all, Raven is a bridge between the living and the underworld, a messenger of death and doom (kinda scary) however this feathered friend also has less ominous associations, Raven is also associated with rebirth and cleansing, so whenever something needs changing Raven makes his appearance to herald a dramatic change; hence Raven is a totem spirit for those yearning for change, rebirth and in many cases power.
So? Is Raven your spiritual guide? What other animals do you think have an important symbolism? let me know in the comment section, and if you enjoy my work please upvote and follow ;) see you soon
