The Steem Wolf - A drawing made using the colors of steemit

in #art8 years ago (edited)

Steemit inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and draw something completely different from what I normally draw. For me steemit represents something new and mysterious. Something uncertain, but exciting - an opportunity. I feel super motivated by all the great content on this site, and I'm so exited to be a part of all this ^_^

The wolf and the ice blue forest

The wolf is one of my favorite animals, representing freedom, self reliance, endurance and intelligence. The forest represents the unknown and mysterious. It's a beautiful place full of life and energy. The light that shines through represent the endless possibilities that steemit brings.

Size: A4
Paper: Arches hot pressed watercolor paper
Tools: Copic Sketch markers, Prismacolor Premier pencils, Sakura white gel pen

Close-ups

The watercolor paper gives a really nice texture to the drawing.

How the drawing was made

The sketch
I started out with a really simple sketch, using a regular pencil. Some of the areas are lined with a gray multiliner, the eyes, nose and some of the face. I actually regretted outlining those areas, so I decided not to outline the rest of the drawing.

For the forest I used a very light marker to draw a guide for where I wanted the trees to be.

Coloring
Then I started using my markers. Being the first time I made a drawing like this, I didn't really know what I was doing, so I just went with the flow...

I used the following markers for the entire drawing:

  • 110
  • B91, B93, B95, B97
  • B0000, B000, B00, B01

The drawing without details and highlights
This is what the drawing looked like when I was done with the markers, but before adding details with colored pencils and white gel pen

The finished drawing
I added some details using black and blue color pencils, and added highlights using a white color pencil and white gel pen.

Love the art! It's always great to see people contribute quality content like this on steemit, this is what most differentiates it from reddit and other networks. I often post some of my artwork on deviantart but rarely do I make a profit off of it. It's amazing that awesome artwork like this can be properly rewarded! Great work!

Thank you so much! Yeah, I started out a year ago, and have a pretty big instagram account. But as you say, all you get are likes without any real value. So artists have nothing to loose by posting in steemit instead, if you're lucky you make some money, and if not you haven't lost anything. So it's amazing having this opportunity. ^_^

Great pictures. What is your instagram? I'd love to follow and see more of your work. I'm @Benbrick on IG :)

Thank you, it's the same name as I have here: @pixielolz
I have mostly drawn pokemon, as you can see if you visit my insta, but I'm going to do more stuff like the wolf in the future. :)

Beautiful! Love the Steemwolf. :) You know what I love most? The gentle smile on the wolf. Can I vote for this to be the official Steem mascot?

Also, great touch to run us through your process.

Look forward to your next piece. :)

Thank you so much. You have no idea how glad this comment made me, I really appreciate it :D

And yes, I gladly take your vote :D Thank you again :)

You're most welcome. Do keep posting your work.

Thank you so much, you just put a huge smile on my face :D

No, thank you for sharing! Always glad to make someone smile! :0)

Really amazing work! Thanks for letting us know what markers you used. I wanna get back into drawing and those details help.

Thank you so much, and you're welcome. I remember how hard it was to choose what markers and colors to buy when I first started out. The B9'series are one of my favorite copic blues :D

You're really talented. If you want to get more SteemDollars, consider to show nine pictures of yourself and only one of the blue wolf, instead of nine of the wolf and only one of yourself. - Steemers understand this joke. ;)

Thank you :) And lol, that's really not my style XD

Thanks for that. :) What are the blue tubes below the head? Blood vessels?

Really cool painting. Great work!

Thank you :)

Cute Wolf~

Thank you!! ^_^
