A good friend of the family got married a few days ago. As we were going over the gift registry that the bride had set up, we noticed some neat looking plates with a really cool retro design on them.
My love, Amanda thought, "Why don't I just paint a few canvases for her in the same style? That would add a much more personal effect."
So she did! And as an experiment, she also got some large aluminum trays, suspended the canvases using plastic cups, mixed some resin up and poured a layer over the artwork to create a glossy shell.
These are the result:
Originally she was going to do 6, but lost track of time and only managed to do 3 before the wedding. Oh well, no one will know!
We were quite happy with the results and feel that the designs matched up really well with the Bride's sense of style. We wrapped them up and brought them to the wedding and didn't hear anything until the next day, which was yesterday. First thing in the morning, Amanda got a text with a very emphatic 'Thank you! We absolutely love them! They are going on our kitchen wall.'
So overall, I'd say that the project was a hit. I think that when it comes to gift giving, the amount of effort put in very much outweighs the price of purchase. Even better, if you can make something personal to show that you care, you should certainly do so!
The recipient will most certainly appreciate it.
The painting might last for many years because of the resin finish @nuthman and it is indeed beautiful and more importantly had a good personal touch because it was handmade by you and Amanda.
I remember when my brother got married, we made the giveaways, it was these metal candle holders that my brother had fashioned by welding tubes and flat bars and then spray painting it.
That sounds like a cool gift. I really like the resin effect too. We are working on some other ideas using resin as well!
Amazing details! I very like the drawing with octopus;)
That's my favorite too :)
