While being worried about if the photographer or model will like the painting, I always take into account my process. It's supposed to be fun. I will never do a portrait again if it becomes not fun. That's a simple rule, but that's what it's about. Not to feel like work.

Art and story are key. I don't know the model's name for this, so I chose Hannah.

Painting

There are three parts of this that I wanted to get communicated. The black tulle, the necklace, and her blue eyes.

Metallics

---

I wanted to use mainly the bronze metallic paint for her hair in this. Basically having a solid color is extremely striking. I then layered over some brown gouache to add some textural streaks to her hair. I also used an acrylic silver which is really thick and heavy to create her jewelry. It's really heavy looking, so I thought this was a good way to supplement that.

The original photo was taken by fellow Steemian @kudriavceva. Her work is highly professional and polished looking. The posing, the lighting, the colors, the sharpness, it all sits so well together.

Mistakes, Mistakes

Well, I made a big mistake by letting the black bleed into her lips. Then I panicked and had to dab it off and paint over the lips. Because of that, a really soft, almost floral effect happened to her lip color and I really like it. I might use that technique again. Something it did to the fibers of the paper made the color stick to certain things but not others.

Process Video

With a GoPro on my head, I recorded this video. The setting is timelapse which makes it much more shaky, but faster moving overall. It takes a frame per 1/2 second.
