This is my first attempt at drawing the Taj Mahal. I still have work to do to improve this. I’ve been obsessed with this building since I was a kid. Hopefully, I can visit it one day. It was drawn on Strathmore toned-tan paper with Koh-i-Noor woodless pencils.
The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white, marble mausoleum located on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Construction of the mausoleum was mostly completed in 1643, but work continued on other phases of the project for another 10 years. The tomb is located on a 42-acre complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall.
Unfortunately the Taj Mahal has been in a state of disrepair due to over tourism, storm damage and stains from insects and pollution. It is currently undergoing renovations. In 2019, in order to address over tourism, the site instituted fines for visitors staying longer than three hours.
