A Cara Delevingne Portrait Attempt (Step-by-Step Procedure)

in #art7 years ago

Good day, steemians! I will share to you my attempt in drawing a portrait of Cara Delevingne with a procedure of how I made it. I seriously just want to challenge myself with realistic drawings so I am planning now to draw more of these kind of portrait. And for now I chose to make Cara as my muse for today's challenge.

So this is the finished product of her portrait...

And these are the few materials that I used throughout the whole process. A mechanical pencil, an ordinary 2B pencil and an eraser. I still do not have many drawing materials so bare with me (HEHEH)

So to start off, I outlined the half of her face using the 2B pencil for a light touch. This will be my guideline for future detailing.

As you can see there is a big lips beside my drawing. I attempted to make the portrait big but then realized that I do not have enough pencil or lead to shade nor have better drawing materials so I opt to make it a little smaller.

Then continuing on the outline of the other side of her face...

Next is shading the darker areas on her face still using the same pencil. In this phase I am still adjusting the proportion of the left and the right side. I realized here that drawing a full face view portrait is not that easy because proportioning is a bit of a challenge. But I thought that oh well, some body parts are not of perfect proportions either so...

The next thing I did is shadowing to make sure that there is depth in the drawing. I am aware that realistic drawings should have very much details on everything but I still do not have enough skills to really emphasize such detail so I focused on basic shadowing.

In the next step, I already used mechanical pencil. I always use this when I need things to get darker and to emphasize contrast in what I am doing. And since I only have 2 pencils, one lighter than the other, I chose this mechanical pencil for darker touch on areas because it produces darker lead that is easy to use.

Lastly, I continued on making contrast and did my best to emphasize details to make a creative touch out of the simple materials I used.
