Demo from tonight. With this painting that'll wrap it up for this semester in my digital painting class. One more week of school then I'll be on winter break. I think I'll do more paintings over the break. I feel like I've got the bug. I go through spells of bouncing around between primarily wanting to draw, paint or do 3D work. I'm in the painting mood these days.

Needed to go pretty quick on this so I chose to keep a lot of the painting pretty loose. The time you save from rendering is balanced by being really specific in the shapes that you choose to represent the forms. If those aren't well designed, things just end up looking like mush.

Here's how the process went.

Earlier today I listened in on the State of Steem forum. It was cool to see all the people there, but to be honest it was a bit worrisome to me hearing all the different things all the different people thought was the best way forward for Steem.

It was a bit worrisome to me because there was a lot of talk about building businesses on the blockchain and monetizing this or that, but there was not as much as I would have hoped concern for the average content creator or consumer. There was attention paid to onboarding initiatives, which I think is great. I think Onboarding and user experience should be the top priorities actually. I think a focus on business now is putting the cart before the horse, and I think people that are freaking out about the price are maybe reacting a bit too emotionally.

If Bitcoin drops Steem will drop, and if Bitcoin pumps Steem will pump. It's not something we're doing or not doing that is the PRIMARY reason behind the Steem price. I'm sure it's a factor, just not the main one. Anyway, that's probably worth it's own post, but those were some of my major takeaways.

Any of you tune in? What were your thoughts?

Thanks for looking!

Absolutely amazing work with this! This deserve to be framed and hung in a museum. lol

And I agree. The price of Steem like most of all other alt coins are unfortunate still tied directly to the fate of Bitcoin so no matter how well or bad any of the other tokens are doing, they all are going to pump up or dump off based on what Bitcoin does. Folks should focus on building the platform even better rather than focus on the price. The price should be like icing on a cake. Patience is a virtue. Also, I would just look at these low prices as like a second-chance sale rather than a tradegy. ;) Overall, the focus should be just keep building the platform and spread the word. I think even if we all aren't coders even just getting ideas to add on the platform can help too by giving the community something to think about and work with.

What a brilliant design! So beautiful and sweet! Thanks for sharing, @midlet!

I'd like to invite you to participate in my Art Curation Initiative #5

Stunning work! Your brushstrokes are scrumptious..! The textures work so well, here!

Interesting perspective on the SoS... And a sound one, imho. If the platform is fun and easy to use, the rest will follow. But, I mean...I'm not here to make money... At most, this place is a fun little tip-jar. What I'm most in love with here is the enthusiastic and diverse community...a sort that I wouldn't get on almost any other site.

I didn't attend, because I thought the idea of using Discord for a distributed blockchain discussion was laughable. Plus I hate Discord.

I thought I've been whingeing on about development of curation efforts too much...but if they're gonna talk about onboarding... Onboarding is not what should be focused on any time soon. We're not ready. We have to fix the problems here first. To do that...well...we have to fix open source development so more gets done, and make it easier for people to find and reward good posts.

I don't think there's any issue with people building other things on Steem though. They're doing it. Steem Monsters is doing great. There's no problem there. The problem is with the primary application. It's making Steem look bad to have this social network that's supposed to reward good content that's actually just doing ROI with bidbots, while a ton of good posts go unrewarded.

Bitcoin will go up and down and take the crypto market with it but it doesn't help when people don't believe in us.

Onboarding is not what should be focused on any time soon. We're not ready. We have to fix the problems here first.

We don't need to onboard people to Steemit, Steempeak is as ready as any Steem dapp is going to be for a really long time, every other social platform didn't start in it's current state. The users can adapt with the platform.

I don't mean to say there's a problem with this, I just don't think it's the highest priority. Without working on UX there won't be people to use these businesses.

It's making Steem look bad to have this social network that's supposed to reward good content that's actually just doing ROI with bidbots, while a ton of good posts go unrewarded.

The fix for that is more people. It's not anyone's responsibility to upvote anything except whatever they want to upvote. If a user is not getting any/enough upvotes, that's a problem for them to solve, not the system. If you went on Facebook and just started making posts without any connections to either family or friends, you would have a similar experience there. People need to onboard their family and friends and anyone else they think will care about their content.

This idea of universally "good" content is flawed. There is only "relevant" content, or content that is good to each individual. The value of google/Youtube is not that there's a ton of good content there, it's that ALL the content is there, and they have sophisticated tools to connect you to the relevant content specifically for you. There's a million times more spam and trash on those platforms, you just don't see it because you're not looking for it and they're good at pointing you at stuff you'd want to see.

Those are a collection of billion dollar algorithms and we aren't going to have that any time soon, so we've got to work with what we've got or give up and go somewhere else.

The painting is great and beautiful :).

And I agree with you. The reason Steem is down is because of Bitcoin, so there's really little that we can do to fix the currency value. However, there are a lot of problems in Steemit and hopefully those are addressed appropriately and without the expectation that solving them will fix the price.

🎉 Congratulations @midlet! 👏, your amazing Artwork has been selected to be featured in my curation post.
