On the Vyborg side of St. Petersburg there is another interesting architectural and religious building that needs to be mentioned. This is the current Orthodox Sampsonievsky Cathedral, built on the project of architect Pietro Antonio Trezzini in 1740.
After the victory and in honor of this victory of the Russian Army in the Battle of Poltava in 1709, by decree of Peter the Great in 1710 the wooden Sampsonievskaya church was built and illuminated. Then the church was rebuilt into a cathedral. Construction was conducted from 1728 to 1740. The length of the construction period was due to a lack of funds in the treasury.
In 1830 the cathedral was renovated. In particular, stone floors were made instead of cast-iron ones.
In 1935, the cathedral was closed to religious services, and bells were removed from it. And only thanks to the initiative of believers Sampsonievsky Cathedral in 1984 it began to restore and be given to the introduction of St. Isaac's Cathedral. Sampsonievsky Cathedral received its first faithful visitors in 1999 in the 290th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Paltava.
Since 2010, the Sampsonievsky Cathedral hosts daily religious services.
You saw another architectural monument of St. Petersburg. I wish you all the best and I look forward to new excursions around the city.
