Original Charcoal Drawing of C.S. Lewis: "The Pensive Writer"

Here is a quick charcoal drawing I did of C.S. Lewis pondering as he writes. Specifically this was used to illustrate his conundrum in trying to think as a devil would in his creation of the main character in the "Screwtape Letters."

So in this drawing, I chose to show that pensive emotion in this face, highlighting the fact that as a Christian writer, it was not an easy task for him to dive deep into the thoughts how Hell may operate, and twist everything around, calling what we would normally associate with good as evil.

Have you ever been put into a role that was outside your comfort zone, possibly even distasteful, even when doing work that was rewarding?

Let me know your thoughts, and have a blessed day,

You definitely got the pensive look right! Good lines and loving the light/dark contrast. I would have added some more detail to the mug to give it more depth but other than that I really like it. You have some nice art on your page, will be following for more in the future :)

Thanks, Jed! Look forward to sharing more with you. I think, being a good Englishman, he probably was drinking tea, but the cup I drew may be a bit bigger than an actual teacup, in retrospect! :)

This is an amazing drawing! How long did it take you to finish this beautiful art work? :)

Thank you. It took me 1-2 hours, if I remember correctly. It's more a quick sketch, but it came together pretty nicely. I used it as an advertisement for a CS Lewis discussion some friends and I were having, so I had to get in done in time for the meeting!
