Today I was honored to participate at photography workshop. What I noticed in that workshop and many others (no matter if it was art, music, film or design class) was the fact that bunch of technical or theoretical knowledge given to students. But does this knowledge makes us artists? The students at photography workshop knew a lot about color theories, rule of thirds, camera settings, etc., but one took an image of a dead centered green shoes on a green background and another student made a beautiful composition with extra soft light, blur background and a visual message. When the students were asked to talk more about their works, the first said that he wanted to accomplish the assignment, the second one told that his intention was to create a beauty out of everyday items.
Boom!
Yes, knowledge is important. Education is the foundation for a long journey that we call life.
But we can't learn to be artists.
We are artists when we make the world more beautiful with our music, drawing, writing, filming, photography, design and more. This desire is our blood. The beauty is our skin. The passion to create is our destiny.
