I watched the new version of IT today and decided to draw the clown.
If you haven't yet, you should see IT.
I think you will enjoy IT.
Okay enough, lame, "playing with the title" jokes. The truth is, the movie is good. Wonderfully shot and extremely well handled as a new take on the story and old film. Maybe you have to love the old one, or even the book, to really like this one but from a filmmakers perspective IT (last one, sorry) is beautifully done.
That said though...
Despite loving clowning as an art-form and performance style - lets be honest.
Clowns are creepy.
When I was 10, after having already watched IT at far too young an age, my parents took me to the circus. I don't remember too much about the experience that stood out above any other time i went to the circus except for the clown show.
During the clown show the clowns asked for a volunteer from the crowd to come up for their performance and yup...
You guessed it...
The volunteer was...
Some large, fully-grown man in the front row.
Honestly.
Come on. Even at 10 I was cynical and had a healthy mistrust of fully grown men wearing makeup, making balloons animals and being overly friendly to kids.
Long story short, the volunteer went up, was strapped to an excessively large bullseye and the clowns threw knives at him.
After they were done throwing their knives the clowns took the bullseye, with the man still attached, backstage.
I never saw the man return to his seat.
If you want my opinion of the film, it was a bit too long and repetitive, relying a little too heavily on jump scares and the flip-flop between humour and horror made it feel a little too constructed. But definitely a thrilling experience nonetheless.
That said, I just couldn't hand;e the kids just dumping their bikes in the middle of the road. Every. Fricking. Time. Darn kids!
right?...and i was like, so theres kidnapping and murder but no-one steals bikes?
Apparently it is a homage to the original miniseries, but come on! So annoying.
I can imagine a scene where a dude is just driving, minding his own business, and then sees the bikes in the middle of the road.
Slow breaking. Drops his head. Sigh.
"I wish IT would just get them already."
Gets out, moves the bikes, and drives away.
