I was once an editorial cartoonist in my school during my junior highschool days. Since reports about bullying is fast increasing, Worldwide

So I made an editorial cartoon about the effects of bullying to the victims.

|But first, let us know what is an editorial cartoon

What is Editorial Cartooning?

It consists of two different words, Editorial and cartoon.

Editorial means an article written by an editor that expresses a newspaper's or own opinion on a certain topic or issue.

While Cartoon comes from two words:
Car for caricature - that means drawing of people in which a particular feature is exaggerated.

Toon for lampoon - that means a subtle attact presented with humor.

So basically , Editorial cartooning is an illustration or drawing expressing one’s opinion or interpretation towards a certain topic.

In making an editorial cartoon you must look for these things:

  • Symbolism
  • Stereotyping
  • Exaggeration
  • Humor
  • Analogy
And the most important, Technical skills.

So here’s my step by step procedure:

1. Think of a concept that would suit the topic “Bullying”.

2. Light sketching
This is important so that if you want to erase something in your cartoon it would be much easier.

Bullying is a serious issue that is fast increasing around the world.

There are many types of bullying, but would cause the same effect to those who are victims.

It is an aggressive behavior among others. This involves dominance among someone or a perceived power imbalance. It is considered to be bullying
if someone is being hurt either by words or actions on purpose, usually more than once.

Bullying can affect anybody regardless of their ages. Those who are the victims or the bullied those who bully, and those who witness bullying.

| The most prone to be bullied are the ones who tend to be lonely

That results to many negative outcomes including impacts on mental health, substance use, and even suicide.

It is important to talk to kids to determine whether bullying.

Psychological effects of bullying to the victims

Those who are bullied are more likely to experience:

Increased feelings of sadness and tend to be more lonely than before.
The victim also experience depression and anxiety that if not treated immediately will cause something severe. Also victims change in sleep and eating patterns, over-stressed and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy.

|If this is not treated It has the potential to be repeated, over time.

Why do bullies bully?

Those who are bullies are more likely being maltreated at home. Some of them can’t get enough attention from their family that’s why they tend to get some attention from the victims.
The bullies also see a victim as different from them or new to their eyes. So in order to make the victims follow them, they tend to bully.

So there are tips on how to cope up with bullying

Get away from being bullied

According to http://m.kidshealth.org/en/kids/bullies.html?WT.ac=
In order to overcome bullies these are the things you need to do.

  • Don't give the bully a chance
As much as you can, avoid the bully.
  • Stand tall and be brave
  • Feel good about you
  • Get a buddy (and be a buddy)
Two is better than one if you're trying to avoid being bullied.
  • Don't bully back
Don't hit, kick, or push back to deal with someone bullying you or your friends.
  • Don't show your feelings. Plan ahead.
How can you stop yourself from getting angry or showing you're upset? Try distracting yourself (counting backwards from 100, spelling the word 'turtle' backwards, etc.) to keep your mind occupied until you are out of the situation and somewhere safe where you can show your feelings.
  • Tell an adult
If you are being bullied, it's very important to tell an adult. Find someone you trust and talk about what is happening to you.

BULLYING IS NOT A JOKE, IT IS A SERIOUS MATTER NEED TO BE ADRESSED IMMEDIATELY

Thank you :) i’ll check on that later 😊

My kiddo is going through bullying and he is in kinder.

In that case maam, you really need to talk to your child for that matter, make him feel like he's not alone. Be strong for your child because in that way, you'll inspire your child. Though It cannot be avoided since bullying is really that mainstream today but you can also talk to the teacher to immediately address the issue. Say no to bullying!

Oh yes I have talked with him, about different perspectives too. I have heard his bullies parents yell at him at school and it is very disheartening. The teacher is very rude and not helpful. I have spoken with the principal and the next steps are school board/changing schools. Even though this boy bullies my son I have taught my son to really try to understand that its not about him, that to fill the world with love and light. Thank you @ligarayk I really love the support this community has.

This is a really great way not only to advocate against bullying but to showcase your art and branding as an editorial cartoonist. Hope to see more of your post @ligarayk! Hope we grow in the community together
