Hi guys!
Last weeks were pretty fast going, as many of them before (and I suppose many of them ahead of me still). Working on a tarot deck is far more aggravating and difficult than my employer would imagine, since September we have 7/8 finished artworks and 44 sketches but it seems like it's going to last at least 6 additional months to the process. Well... it's better for me to go on diet, lol :( 😝🤣
Nonetheless, each week I try to make some new stuff and experiment a bit!
I run a shop with my partner and we're still figuring out how online selling works but we're focusing on high-quality goods (as handmade instruments, art, incenses, books, and a lot more...)
...so I thought about making candles.
Beeswax is a bit hard to process because of a lack of strength on my side yet still the whole process is much satisfying.
At first, I use a modeling clay (which is quite nice and easy if you don't want your hands to get all dirty from a lump of natural clay. It's still a bit sticky when warm but hey! It's winter, so I keep it on my balcony ;)
and 4 kilograms of wax are waiting...
It was a bit challenging to come up with an idea, I haven't been sculpting for ten years for real and I didn't know what to expect at all. One of my students has shown up and we thought about using modeling clay to make some head for practice.
The head was formed...
I looked at it and I felt like I need to continue my student's work (with her permission of course). In a meantime, I was sculpting some other ideas - an abstract one and a natural-looking one:
Still, my only tools were some copper wire I did bound for my purposes, a scalpel, and some wooden sticks. Softening the model was a real trick...
Silicone was ready for use, so I polished/softened the shapes and give it a try!
A silicone form went well. I had some previous experience with this material so it wasn't a complete mystery for me how to make things the way they should be. I poured the wax into the form and voila!
A new candle has been born...
I feel that the fire should make the last touch and polish edges a little more so it would have a softer look.
The other two clay models are waiting for me to mix silicone and finally finish them but today I've got my Xmas gift from myself:
I hope to finish the other two models soon and also I hope not to get too depressed in the process...
Have a nice December, guys! 🌟
