Something new tonight! There is this recessive gene in my family that causes us to get obsessed with hobbies. @customnature has it. I may have it even worse and my Leo nature causes me to immediately spend the most amount of money on the equipment and materials even if I have no idea how to use them. In recent Hive posts, I’ve talked about my Elegoo 4K 3D resin printer and how much fun I’ve been having with that. Months early, I started learning how to properly use Nomad Sculpt for the iPad Pro and now, those two areas of my life are coalescing.
I’ve been downloading .stl files all over the internet and printing small figurines. @guthrie has made requests for Five Nights At Freddy’s characters, but I’ve been printing a few from Magic: The Gathering. Regardless of what you think of the game, the characters and lore is unbelievably rich. @tarotbyfergus and I have our favorites […and least favorites]. I’ve already printed an Elish Norn, but one monster I’d love to have in physical form is the Eldrazi Titan, Emrakul. I began scouring the internet for a 3D of her, and I found one!

Well…not exactly. I found a cool 3D model of Emrakul but there was no file. It was only a screen capture that was part of the artists portfolio. I was discouraged, but motivated to get our Nomad and start sculpting one on my own. So, here I am, now 30 some hours later […with very little sleep in between], getting about half way to my own 3D of Emrakul. At this half way point of the sculpting, I decided to pause and covert the file to a ChituBox print file. There is a high, high likely it will fail.
I’m going to be working on texturing, which is something I need to review. Glen Southern is an awesome GFX artist in Australia and I bought his courses online. Texturing is what I’ll be doing tonight, but I thought it would be a good idea to start a print now and see where the problems areas arise. This particular sculpt is massively intricate. In MTG, lots of players just call Eldrazi, “spaghetti monsters”, and you can see why. Emrakul is particularly top heavy, and that could present print challenges as well.
There will be an update on this process and if I stay as deeply obsessed as I am right now, it may be as early as tomorrow. I’m definitely in a creative flow right now. @swarddraws and I have been making big gains in the character and world building development for our first @mirrorpool releases, and having the chance to work on some monsters and concepts for another client project. I wish I could just exist in this heightened state forever, but as all artists know, it’s fleeting. Enjoying while I can.

Man this makes me want to give 3D art like blender/zbrush another retry and solid go
Oh my hat I can totally relate to the OCD fixation behavior! Either I can't focus or I get lost down a rabbit hole for hours, especially when it comes to my creative side (or Excel Spreadsheets 🙈). Flipping Awesome 3d art! I'll keep my eye out for more.
This is so cool I'm def living my '3d printing fatasy' through you...one day. I want a 3d printer that will print porcelain/china. I wonder if they exist...I'd go NUTS it'd be like a Grandma's attic up in here haha.
Really cool @kommienezuspadt
This one looks great!
Like a giant mushroom...
Great work!
What an amazing skill, I also own an iPad pro, although I have never used that program for 3d modeling. i use it mainly for digital art with procreate.
