The wacom tablet is awesome and essential. Don't be tricked into buying anything more fancy yet. Painting on an MS Surface device is not quite the same thing and not as responsive. I have heard various artists saying that you need to be able to see where you are painting under your brush but I do not think so. After a few days of use with a wacom, I have found it totally usable at a tiny fraction of the cost.
