Creature Creation

in #art8 years ago

I spend a lot of time reviewing comic book art on my blog, so it might make sense to you, that I draw comic style art and have ever since I was a kid. This is all original art by KidSysco and I will break down each piece giving some insight into the creation process.

Empress Scala

A few weeks ago I created a similar post about Empress Scala showing her in one of her finest moments. This time around, she is a bit upset. The Empress has no mouth so she speaks using psychic energy. When she is angry, the psychic energy really starts to flow all around her and you can tell... She is PISSED!

Initial Sketching

I started out in the sketchbook as usual, then photographed the image using a digital camera so I could pull it into Photoshop.

The Outline

Outlining and coloring in the solid black is usually my first step.

Painting

After the outline is complete, I start painting on new layers below the outline layer until it is complete.

I need one of those wacom things.

The wacom tablet is awesome and essential. Don't be tricked into buying anything more fancy yet. Painting on an MS Surface device is not quite the same thing and not as responsive. I have heard various artists saying that you need to be able to see where you are painting under your brush but I do not think so. After a few days of use with a wacom, I have found it totally usable at a tiny fraction of the cost.

ok thanks for the info.

Very neat looking character. Has elements that remind me of Zen Intergalactic Ninja

Very cool art.

i love the initial sketching most i dont know why but it seems much better than other 2

I think I agree with you there. I realized that lately too. Going back to post all of this kinda forces me to look at the original again and compare it to the final product. Interesting how that works out.

cool! ever made a story with her?

You can see her story and background has been started but no, I have not done any formal comic books or anything with her yet. Perhaps someday!

Maybe just start out with a single strip. In my experience getting it started is the hardest point.
