Brand New Finished Painting: „Siegfried I“ oil on canvas

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemers and Steemians,

it is done!
My painting „Siegfried I“ is finally finished. :)

thum Kathrina Sofie.JPG

This painting I wanted to do for ages!!! The idea for this painting I had already years ago, but like a good wine, some things need to ripen.

In this picture it is the famous scene from the saga of the Nibelungen where Siegfried slew the dragon and is taking a bath in it's blood to harden his body.
Only on his shoulder where a leaf of a lime tree fell onto, would remain a vulnerable spot.

In old legends like the saga of the Nibelungen you can find beautifully described archetypes. Inspiration without end!
Will see who'll become my next victim. :)

Have a beautiful day!

Thank you so much @machv!

Look at that blood, it looks so real.... You are such a talented artist. Well, its great that you let it ripen first, else you could have made a mess out of it. Lol. Or maybe it wouldn't have been as good as this, who knows? Well, this looks really nice... I do like the leaf on him...

Thank you so much @audreybits!
Alwas important not to mess up a painting :D
Yes, the leaf is key in that story.

Yeah, always important! Oh, it is? I had no idea...

@kathrina-sofie, now i wonder, am i looking at a photo or a oil panting. Gosh, your painting really similar to camera. The difference only time taken to finish it. It took you how long to finish this supurb master piece? The man figure it look so natural and real. Best part, you only used few colors to finish this. I love it so much.

Will see who'll become my next victim. :)

I don't mind to be your victim.

Thank you @oliviackl! Trying to paint photo-realistic is something very tempting for me. It's been a lot of fun working on this painting!
But yes the difference is the time. Took me serveral month to finish this painting.
"I don't mind to be your victim" - Good to know :D lol

howdy from Texas kathrina-sofie! wow ya know, when I first saw this painting I thought it was a photograph, that's how realistic and accurate it is! The colors and the shading is excellent. Are you going to do more paintings about the characters in the Nibelungen?

Thank you so much @janton!! :)
It has something to it, trying to work photo-realistic with oils. I'm enjoying it.
At the moment it's planned to do a second version of Siefried. Next time in colour and with more details of the story in the backround. But yes, there would many interesting characters in the Nibelungen to paint!

well I think that will be a wonderful series!

Beautiful concept and execution! <3

That is a painting? Wow! It looks like a fine photo. You did a very smooth finish which is very good.

I think I would like to see more blood flowing from the nape down to the back of Siegfried. I just thought that would make him more heroic and masculine in slaying a dragon. 😃

Thank you @macoolette!
I understand you and I agree on the heroic slaying dragon. It was difficult to decide how much blood would fit... But this is "Siefried - I".
I plan to do another version of it but in colour an whith more of the whole scene and I think more blood would match that painting very well :)

I can already imagine a very colorful and lively version. :)

Ahem, this is very nice indeed <3.

I do love the sensuality of the curve and the pose here. The model who is facing away from us gives me a mysterious aura to the picture, and the bloody hands and the leaf make the picture to be more artistic and personal.

Congratulations for your curie vote ^_^.

Thank you so much for your comment @scrawly!
To have the right composition befor you start a painting is crucial. Blood and leaf are the key in this story.

This truly is breath-takingly beautiful and it's refreshing to see the male form expressed in such a delicate and beautiful way, seeing it is not just the realm of the female nude that can be so lovely.

Thank you so much @donnadavisart!
Men actually get a row deal in getting painted, don't they?
I'm so glad I found this model now, so I'm looking forward to paint a whole series of men.

I can really feel his blood @kathrina-sofie. Great one!

Thank you @jungwatercolor! Painting the blood was quite a tricky bit in the painting. It is key in the scene but I didn't want it to dominante the whole picture.

Oh ! Kathrina ! This is finally completed * ___ * And what wonderful finished version it is ! The skin tone is so wonderfully smooth and soft, and it really looks like a photograph <3

I love the tales of Nordic mythology and your Siegfried is absolutely divine :D He is bathed in dragon's blood except on the spot where the leaf rested on his skin... * ___ * Sort of like Achilles, hahahaha... Gorgeous painting, @kathrina-sofie <3 I absolutely love it!

Congrats for curie, as well <3

Thank you soo much @veryspider!! <3

Wow that's awesome!

Some feedback: Perhaps put less of your signature? I think one would suffice in the corner.

Thank you @aldentan. Yes, it is a bit much. But the painting is still to see, so :)

Wow that is brilliant Kathrina. Keep up the great work you have a new follower

Thank you so much @djskellyb. I'm glad to have a new follower! :)

Wow. A great piece of art backed up with a beautiful story. It's commendable that you finally did it, not allowing complacency after this whole time. Good job @kathrina-sofie.

Thank you so much @tolustx!

I remember the legend now...such a sad ending to tge story though. I would say this painting is worth the wait. Geez! It is so detailed i could be convinced this is a man in a pose instead of a painting. Even the leaf is perfectly detailed. Your painting is a delight and i would love to see more of this. I hope you get inspired everyday to create more amazing works like this one. Cheers!

Thank you so much for you comment @cheekah!
Actually I get inspired by so many things around me that it is really hard to make up my mind whitch idea is good enough to start the next painting with. :)

It is a great job. This is precisely the art that I like!

It is clear that I am not an expert on art and painting, but this kind of art is really what I like, I feel that the people who make this type of art are brilliant. This can be appreciated by all, the human anatomy, the shadows, your skill and discipline to carry out the work. Simply a great job that we can all admire without needing any kind of effort, it is art for the eyes.

This is so kind of you! Thank you so much for your comment @martinmcfly!
Today I had a very interesting chat about art and the man who was looking at my artwork said, you know, when I look at a picture, I either have a connection with it or I don't.
And I think this is what it comes down to. I'm glad you like it :).
