Painting, however it may have been, has always been one of the most appreciated art forms in history. Amongst numerous artists and works, some of them stand out, mark periods, styles and generations and gain a lot of notoriety, be it for those who are fond of and understand the art or not.
01 Bal du moulin de la Galette
Better known as "Le Moulin de la Galette", this is a painting by the French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir from 1876. The work is currently in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and is on the list of the most expensive paintings in the world, evaluated in an incredible 78.1 million dollars.
02 The Night Watch
Watch The real name of the work is Militia Company of District II under the Command of Captain Frans Banninck Cocq, and was painted by the Dutchman Rembrandt van Rijn in 1642. The piece measures 363 × 437cm and is owned by the Amsterdam Museum, but is currently displayed at the Rijksmuseum.
03 Portrait of L'artiste Sans Barbe
This is another work of the famous Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, and is one of several self-portraits he painted during his lifetime. The piece, which portrays the beardless artist (as the name suggests), is an oil painting that was painted in 1889, measuring 40 × 31 cm. The piece may have been the artist's last self-portrait, and in 1998 it was sold for $ 71.5 million for a private buyer.
04 Girl with a Pearl Earring
In Dutch, Meisje met de parel, this is a work of the famous Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. The piece was painted in oil, around 1665, measuring 44.5 × 39 cm, and is currently owned by the Mauritshuis museum in the Netherlands. This is one of the works that was replicated by the famous English artist Banksy.
05 The Mona Lisa
As already expected, in the first position is the painting of the Italian Leonardo da Vinci, considered the best known, most visited, most written on, most sung and the most replicated work of art in the world. The piece is an oil painting on canvas, measuring 77 × 53 cm, begun in 1503/1506 and completed in 1517. The work was purchased by the Louvre in Paris for no less than $ 100 million in 1962, inflation would cost $ 782 million. The piece is in the Book of Records as the most expensive work of art ever sold in history, and is on permanent display in the Louvre museum.
