The sheer talent in this contest makes me hate myself. I'm gonna enter one of the days but it will suck bad.
I did a small Pixel Art Beginner Tutorial for Photoshop if you are interested. In my opinion, Pixel Art is one of the simplest art forms (at least when you do the minimalistic atari style). You learn really fast and you see successes after a short period of time. I would really recommend to give it a try! ;)
when your using photoshop are you just creating a grid? photoshop would be so much better hahah i was using this piskel software and its SO basic, i think should be a challenge limiting it to that software one day hahahha. What grid are you using in photoshop and what size ratio, i really like what you did upvote!
Nope, I scale the canvas down to 100 x 100 pixel and use the pen tool with the size of 1 pixel. Afterwards I scale it to almost every resolution I like. You can find my more detailed Tutorial here: Pixel Art Tutorial in Photoshop. At the moment I use the newest version of Photoshop. But a CS4 version or lower should work too. Photoshop is way to overpowered for this purpose.
I also hate myself for not having the IQ to create these animated pixel thingies.
I need to educate myself, seriously.
Lol this was literally the best i could do in piskel but i think i saw ppl are using photoshop so I'll try to do something better!

what software are these guys using, i had a go tonight in piskel but its soooo basic mabe in not seeing some functions but i dont think could ever create anything like these entries with such big squares and a little canvas lol
I used Aseprite(paid) because it has good animation functions. Today I tested paint.net (free) and it's ok, but I still have to figure out how to add brushes/pencils. You probably can't animate in it, but it has better color control than piskel and no size limit.
Here's my entry. I'm an animator, and created this in flash then exported into a gif sequence and pixelated it. Does that qualify?

I’ll start by saying that it’s an awesome piece. but posting it as pixelart doesn’t do it any justice. Right bow it’s a shitty quality version of a flash movie. I’d say as far as pixelart goes (deliberately playing each pixel) I’d say this doesn’t cut the cake. (It deserves a post on it’s own though cause it IS an awesome piece of art. )
So.... Not acceptable for the contest then?

Fair enough. I didn't read the link explaining pixel art until I was almost finished and decided I'd throw it out there and see.
Posted the original version on my blog and you're right, it looks much better that way.
