Original Weird Water Color Painting

New work! I started painting this the other day for fun. Below I posted two in progress photos to show my process and some of the decisions that I made while creating this surreal fellow. Hope you enjoy.

I didn't have anything in mind when I started out. I had just got a new set of watercolors and wanted to try them out so I got some water and some brushes and picked out a few colors I liked. I started by just making some random shapes and lines. It is fun to wet the paper and let the color bleed giving it a translucent smoky effect, or let the color pool up in a vibrant opaque puddle. I continued painting shapes and lines to create a larger form until I began to see a face start to form. watercolor2.jpg
Now that I had an idea of the direction I wanted to go, I used some darker colors to emphasize certain shapes that flowed with one another, were more interesting looking, or were most important to forming the structure of the face. After this all that was left to do was add in the the rest of the detail.

I also start all of my drawings with nothing in mind and find what's there after a few lines... sometimes i try to start with an idea but half way it becomes something else... :)

thank, its always fun to let your hand flow and free your mind.

It was a picture that I wanted to paint for a while, and you were really good at it.
I draw pictures of people and animals in Korea. Sometimes we take pictures of the landscape.
Like @inkmud, I will be able to draw such a picture someday?
I am not very good at English and I write it in Google Translator, so it is very unnatural, but @inkmud's picture is beautiful ♡
I will follow you.
Can you come to my blog sometimes and have a look at my picture?

The best advice I can give you is to become comfortable with drawing. Learn what you do well and keep trying to improve on areas of your drawing you might not like. Not every drawing you start will be a success, but the most important part is to keep creating.

Thank you for your faithful advice.
I will continue my studies on paintings :)
