Heres a something I've been working on recently. I posted a few photos to show the progression and the creative decisions I made while making this painting. Any support and comments are greatly appreciated. Let me know what you think. colorhead2_1.jpg

I started out with a rough idea of what I wanted to make. I used a pencil to sketch the proportions of the face and to create some flowing shapes I liked as a guide before I added any color. colorhead2_2.jpg

Once I was happy with my sketch I decided to and some ink to add some definition to the more detailed areas so that when I began to add color I wouldn't lose it. I also inked certain lines I felt to important to the composition of the drawing. I knew that I wanted this painting to have a darker color palette, so I began with some blues and browns.

Now the fun begins. I continued building the color using blues and greens. I kept the face a lighter yellow to help distinguish it from the rest of the background. Using lots of colors is fun, but it is important to remember that each color has a relationship with one another and some have good relationships while others just don't work. I was happy with the colors on the paper but I wasn't happy with it over all. I wanted to make it appear the the face looked like it was emerging from outer space or a black abyss. So I hit it with some ink and ink washes. Enter the Abyss.

At this point I was happy how it was looking. All that was left to do was add some detail and touch up some areas. Thanks for looking. If you like what you see please upvote, resteem, or follow me.
