Polymer Clay Cake Toppers

Over the holidays, my cousin got married. He and his bride asked me to make the wedding cake topper so I was glad to help. The couple love tigers and cats so their cake design was inspired on these animals. I did not make the actual cake but I added hints of these felines on the base of the cake toppers.

Earlier last year, I created my first wedding cake topper for a client. Like my recent one, it was made of polymer clay. The couple are Star Wars and Harry Potter fans so the cake topper included a Kylo Ren helmet and books which were fun to make. I start off with a tinfoil base and build the clay onto this, baking it a few times as I add more details and layers with each session in the oven. Thankfully polymer clay can withstand being baked more than once as long as the temperature is not too high.

Although these cake toppers are not edible, they are durable and will last a long time so they make wonderful keepsakes.

I hope to make more little sculptures using this material; I will share them here. Thanks for reading.

That is really cool. Nicely done @fyntacie :) When you mention polymer clay I take it it's not the same as potters clay? Or am I mistaken...

Hi @therneau, polymer clay is like Fimo clay which comes in different colours. The texture is like Plasticine and you bake it in a domestic oven to harden it.

This is an unusual art form, very pretty and well done @fyntacie

Thank you for the compliment.

Never heard of this art form @fyntacie, quite unique, well done!

Thank you, I only learned about polymer clay 2 years ago so it has been a fun journey.

Nice cakes! You will eventually get to bake me a cake someday.

Maybe I could decorate the cake? Thanks for the compliment, although I didn't bake the actual cakes.

Ohh! Dah will be alright.
