The controversial Czech artist David Cerny (Prague, 1967) is not afraid to annoy people. Since he became known in 1991 for painting a Soviet tank commemorating the liberation of Prague by the Red Army at the end of the Second World War pink, Czech society has never ceased to be shocked and admired. At the time, his act of civil disobedience was considered "vandalism" and he was immediately arrested.
Today, his outdoor works surprise visitors in every corner of Prague, serving as a satirical and amusing counterpoint to the classic beauty and harmony of the city. His nonconformism has crossed borders and has become another reason to walk around Prague. Let's take a look at some of his most surprising creations.
In this post I am going to tell you about his works in motion although David Cerny is a sculptor well known to Prague visitors as he has his own museum in its streets and leaves no passer-by indifferent.
London Booster
For fun and eye-catching I present David Cerny's sculpture "London Booster" that he created in 2012 for the London Olympic Games. It's a two-storey red English bus with arms with which it performs push-ups, windows that turn into screens and its back that looks a lot like a big human ass. You can see her doing push-ups every day between 3pm and 3.30pm in Chodov, next to the Agrofert company headquarters.

Metalmorphosis, head of Franz Kafka
David Cerny has created two moving works with Kafka's head, using the name "Metamorphosis" from Franz Kafka's considered autobiographical work with which he tries to capture in a story the loneliness and isolation he felt towards his family during his life, applying this as a self-portrait.
As I explained in the previous paragraph David Cerny makes this work and chooses the work "Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka as a self-portrait of his own personality.
This rotating head of Frank Kafka in Prague is made of stainless steel, has a height of 10 meters, weighs 45 tons of which 38 of them are in motion. and has evolved making the 42 layers of the sculpture have an independent drive and not incorporating the element water. It is located in Prague where it forms part of the reconstruction and modification of the metro station.
Leaving aside conjectures, the two mobile sculptures are true works of engineering and mechanics.
Metalmorphosis in North Carolina
The first was made in North Carolina at the request of Riprand Arco, founder and president of American Activos Corporaction, whose work was conceived to celebrate the opening of Whitehall 3701 Corporate Center. From the very beginning, David Cerny wanted to incorporate the element of water into the sculpture by making it flow from his mouth into a large fountain at its base.
David Cerny created this work by composing seven separate layers that are in continuous motion incorporating engine control programs orchestrating choreographed motion sequences. It is an engineering of mechanics and computers.
Speederman
The installation called "Speederman" from 2014, plays with speed and confusion with the arachnid superhero. The movement of this giant appears frozen through the metal bands that are projected behind the figure and are illuminated at night changing color. It is a metaphor for the frenetic rhythm of urban societies and the complexity of the road in our daily lives.
Speederman, 2014. 3.60 meters high. Fiberglass, LED screens, steel and electronic wiring.
It is not only for the excellent, peculiar and controversial trajectory of his work but for the fabulous combination he has achieved combining mechanical engineering and numerical control.
