Tarot Major Arcana handpainted cards...Part VIII

in #art7 years ago

Nudity warning. This is part 8 of my Tarot Major Arcana Series.

If you have seen my other cards I guess it makes sense that I could not make the Devil without crossing the nudity line. so be warned.

Temeperance is a very symbol laden card and I wanted to retain most of that symbolism so I ended up making something that was very close to the rider waite card in terms of the theme. I did cahnge the feel of the card though, and made the wings of the angelic figure more subtle as if they might as well be part of the background.

The Devil. In my mind this card is about excess. It bothered me a little that the riderwaite card was so tranquil. The devil sits like a civil servant and the damned figures in the foreground look almost bored. I wanted something more dynamic so I drew the damned as if they were fighting the chains and the devil is also much more dynamic. I even let him brake the frame with his wings. I also decided to draw the offending erection. It always seemed odd to me that a creature which is all about lust and excess and violence, should not be like that himself. So there you have it. Some might be offended by that, but then remember its only a drawing, and it is the devil himself after all.

Great stuff again! I really like this tarot idea, it must be fun coming up with your own interpretation of these cards.

Well thank you back :-) Yeah its been a few years but I can still remember how much time I spent on sifting trough various interpretations to try and get my very own take and not make the images to "closed for interpretation" Luckily thats almost impossible with a drawing. there is always room for peoples own interpretations

hi its frightening most times its true !

I am actually not much of a believer in these kinds of things myself, but I do believe that there is power in Human imagination.
