I am currently working on this piece. The details around the portrait are endless! I plan on completely filling up the entire white space with designs.
Here is how it first began:
I had a reference image I worked from.
This little boy is the son of a friend of mine. In this particular photo he reminded me of my younger self so I decided to paint him.
I started with a basic sketch
Once I had that done I began painting it with watercolor. When working with watercolor paint it is best to work from lighter values to the darker ones. I start with a yellow ochre and lay down a light wash marking where the lighter tones will be. Then I begin to layer it with burnt sienna and vandyke brown. At the very end I apply just a small touch of black for the hair and certain darker areas. Gotta be careful though because black is an invasive color!
After the watercolor dried I began adding my abstract psychedelic patterns into the background.
And thats where Im currently at right now! I hope you can take something from seeing my process and apply it to your own creations! Thank you for taking the time to look at my post, may you all have a wonderful moment wherever you may be!
One love!
