Peyote is a psychedelic cactus found in south Texas and Mexico. It is one of the more rare varieties of psychedelic plants as it is only limited mostly to these regions. There is a magical story behind its origins, I will tell of how I remember it but I would highly suggest you go and look more into the depth of it.

Way back during the time of the natives there was and still is a tribe called the Huicholes. It was a rough time for this tribe as they lived in the dessert land in Mexico and the food and water rations were very scarce. One day the elders had a meeting trying to figure out what they were going to do to provide for the tribe so they sent out four young men, each representing the four elements: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. They were instructed to go out and hunt and bring back whatever they were able to gather no matter the amount. So the young men went out on their quest into the desert. A couple of days passed and they were tired with no luck until they suddenly came across a big blue deer. They began to chase it to try and capture it for the tribe. They went after the dear for a while but became tired, the deer felt sympathy for the young men and let them rest. The next day they kept going, following the deer carefully up into the mountains.

One of the young men saw an opportunity and launched his arrow at the deer. It quickly jumped out of the way behind some rocks. As they moved in closer to see if they had hit it they were confused as not only had the deer dissapeared but the arrow had landed on a pile of Peyote cactus shaped in the form of the deer. The young men decided to pick the cactus and take it back to their tribe. When they arrived they shared the Peyote with the elders and suddenly their thirst and hunger dissapeared. And ever since then the Huicholes go on a Peyote hunt/ vision quest once a year to honor and communicate with the ancestors to find guidance and spiritual cleansing.

I personally am very grateful to the many times of which I have eaten this sacred medicine. It has taught me so much about myself and nature. Guided me in times of distress and has gifted me with magnificent wisdom. I hope you all enjoyed the story of the blue deer and look more into the Huichol people and Peyote.
Much love to everyone, may you have a beautiful moment wherever you may be.

Awesome :) I've never tried it myself. I hope to one day. I'd like to get a "pet cactus" seeing as they are legal in Canada, just very expensive for live plants. I suppose I could grow some from seeds...

It might be a little difficult for the cactus to really thrive in Canada as it wont be in its natural environment. Peyote is such a beautiful specimen. So mysterious and powerful. And oh so very bitter! Im sure the medicine will come to you one day brother. :)

I'd like to have one to keep by the window in my art studio. I'm pretty sure it would survive indoors without much fuss here. Like you say it will come when and if it's supposed to.

Very interesting background story.
