The Life Of An Artist - Pablo Picasso 

Spanish artist Pablo Picasso was one of the most influential artist of the 20th century. He has completed many art pieces that shaped the 20th century completely. He was also the co-founder of Cubism from 1908 to 1912).

Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain on October 25, 1881 and was soon to become one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century. What many people did not know about Picasso was that he was not only a painter but also a sculptor,print maker, ceramicist and also a stage designer. Picasso was considered very radical in his work by his friends and family. 

The young Picasso was usually seen with a pair of piercings, big black eyes that marked his destiny for greatness. Picasso, has not lived a life of luxury instead he was a relatively poor student which displayed a true passion and talent for drawing since a very young age. There is a legend that his first words were "piz, piz" which is an attempt to say "lapiz" which is a Spanish word for Pencil. His father began teaching him how to draw and paint from a really young age and when he was about 13 years old Picasso's skill level has overtaken his father's.

At the age of 14 he moved with his family to Barcelona where he applied for the School of Fine Arts for who'm he got a exception for being such extraordinary. At the age of 16 he moved to Madrid to attend the Royal Academy of San Fernando where he got fed up with the school's singular focus on classical subjects and techniques. In 1899, at the age of 19 he moved back to Barcelona where he became friends with a bunch of artists and intellectuals who have made their headquarters at a cafe called El Quatre Gats " The Four Cats ".

At the beginning of the 20th century, Picasso has moved to the beautiful place Paris where he opened his studio. Critics and historians have broken down Picasso's career into 3 different periods.

  1. Blue Period 1901-1904
  2. Rose Period 1905-1906
  3. Classical Period 1918-1927


From 1927, Picasso has became obsessed with the new philosophical and cultural movement known as Surrealism, the artistic manifestation of which Cubism was a product of.

Pablo Picasso has continued to create amazing art and maintain the best schedule on his paintings within the years he has lived a healthy life and has died of old age on April 8, 1973 at 91 in Mougins, France.  His legacy, however has not been forgotten.
