To Spitpaint, or not to Spitpaint

Over the last few years I've participated in a Facebook art group called "Daily Spitpaint". Each day, a couple of topics are announced and you create a piece of artwork based on those topics, spending only 30 minutes on each piece. A couple rules are no photo bashing (using photographs as a base for your painting) and no photo texture brushes.

It's really incredible to see how efficient some of these veteran speedpainters are, some of the results I've seen look like something that would take me days to achieve.

The great thing about participating in this exercise is that it builds confidence, and really pushes you to commit and trust your instincts. Because of this, I feel like I was able to create some really interesting and successful pieces of art due to the constraints.

The downside of this, is I discovered at some point I was only participating for the likes. I was incredibly discouraged if I had created a piece that I thought was really successful, only to have it overlooked by most of the community.

So if you are looking for a neat way to get some practice in and really push your decision making skills when it comes to art, I highly recommend checking out the group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1402563099961950/

Here are some of my favorite speedpaintings from the last few years:

I didn't know people can create something beautiful like this just under 30 minutes. It's just eye-opening and mind-blowing for me. I am really shocked right now. And envious a bit, because I paint like garbage xD And the most amazing thing is, that you can't even pick the best one. They are all so good.

Under 30min you say? Damn XD I never could get the hang of speedpainting, though in fairness I didn't try for the longest time XD
