The Cape Robin, sketched and painted in watercolor.
It is wonderful and a real privilege to be able have a garden with wild birds to enjoy.
"Animals and birds should be wild and free."
There are two birds that are particularly friendly in my garden, they are the Cape Robin and the Olive thrush.
The Cape Robin, Cossypha Caffra (Afrikaans: Jan Frederik)
Well known to many South Africans, this little bird is very tame and comes into my home or patio to pick up any left over food my pets have left behind.
The Olive thrush on the other hand could live inside my home if he could. Even though I have a cat and two dogs, this courageous little bird can be seen walking around my kitchen and living room area.
The Olive Thrush (Turdus Olivaceus) making itself at home in our living area.
Both South African birds, the Olive Thrush and the Cape Robin belong to the Muscicapidae bird family group, which include birds such as Thrushes, Robins, Chats and Flycatchers.
