Introducing Contraband Research

I’ve been animating surreal, creepy and bizarre animations on and off for a little over a year. The works began as I saw that most animation on YouTube seemed to be focused on existing properties like Minecraft and Super Mario. I guess I got a little sick of it and made an animation called “Walter White Saves CatDog”.

My work is mainly stream of conscious images that I first sketch out, then use open source programs like Pencil or Krita to animate, and then use Sony Vegas to edit and add effects. I’ve been looking for other places in addition to YouTube and Vidme to post my work and Steemit seems nice.

Artistically, I was inspired by Batman The Animated Series, a lot of comic book artists like Steve Dillon, Jack Davis, Frank Miller, etc., Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark freaky art by Stephen Gammell, and a lot of other stuff like Samurai Jack, painters like Francis Bacon, Hieronymus Bosch, Edward Hopper, Zdzislaw Beksinski, and plenty of others.

More recently, I’ve been working on a longer and more detailed animation. I’ve also been sketching more by hand and digitally coloring the images (like the one above). I’ve tried my mouse at making pixel art, but that seems to be a lot more complicated than it looks and I was never satisfied with what I made. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve also worked on some of the more basic core fundamentals of art and have been working on those because I would like to draw anything really well.

For the past year, I’ve also watch about one movie a day. I like all sorts of movies, mainly crime films and action movies. I think there have been a lot of great movies made, but I also think some of the movies people really like aren’t as good. If the movie is both violent and funny, I’ll probably like it.

I hope to post regularly here and I hope you all enjoy my work.
