First of, the Black Square is not actually a square. It is a rectangle. The art was painted in 1915 by the famous Russian painter Kasimir Malevich in Saint-Petersburg. This art became one of the most famous and disputed arts in Russian art. The basic element of the black square was Suprematism and suprematism was expressed in combinations of multicolored planes of the simplest geometric outlines. This kind of art was also first used by Kasimir Malevich. Many critics say, that the Black Square is something more than just a painting, a person has to look and think deeply to understand the main idea of the picture that Mr. Malevich wanted to express. But the main question is: “Does this picture really have a hidden meaning and is it really genius work of the XX century?”. To be honest, I read many articles about the origin of the Black Square and there are many types of versions, but most of them say, that The Black Square is a failed work of Malevich and his anger, which he expressed on the paper after this fail. The specialists of Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow proved, that the painting of Kasimir Malevich was painted on a canvas where had been two another works and moreover, they recognized the signature of a painter. This signature says: «Битва негров в темной пещере», which means: “The battle of blacks in the deep dark cave dark night”. So, it also could lead us to think that before the Black Square, Malevich had painted something another and because he didn’t like it, he covered it with a black color and boom – we have a black square.
I truly don’t think it is a genius work which can make you think for years believing that there is something that can turn out to a big miracle. No. Even if the versions of its origin are fake and there was no another picture covered with a black paint, i won’t see a big think and I probably won’t find a hidden idea of the Black Square. For me, it is just a geometric figure, nothing else. But in this case, I really believe, that the original work was failed and Malevich had to correct it and he covered it with another color so other people wouldn’t notice the failed job of the famous painter. As the story says, at that time Malevich was in rush to present his new upcoming work and he didn’t have enough time to paint a new one so he was forced to do everything fast. People assumed it very explosively, they had not seen anything else before and therefore the Black Square became very popular. The genre that was born after this painting had spread worldwide and started a new era of art.
