Another very large canvas for painting on location, painted in 1986 like yesterday's posted painting, "Rio Hondo Aspens." It's in the same style, too, with heavy impasto paint applied with painting knives and large brushes.
I did this one very near the Taos Pueblo and I'm quite certain this stream runs right through the center of it. "Taos" means "red willow" and I admit that I pushed the color of the willows in this piece. Snow-covered Taos Mountain takes up the entire background.
I remember it was bitter cold and I was probably a little nuts for being out painting in this weather in the first place. Oh well. What's youth for if not to go a little crazy once in awhile?

very charming! How do you get the imagery of the painting when you illustrate scenery? Do you take photos, or get outside with canvas, or from your memory?
