RE: Dealing With the "Business End" of Being an Artist

in #art7 years ago

Good advice and a great blog. I have only ever sold art on ebay.. I have never been very good at mounting drawings/paintingsa and find the card can be quite expensive. Unless my work is on canvas, they generally stay in the art shed gathering dust or get given away to friends/family.
I would love to feature in a gallery one day :) fingers crossed :)

In an ideal world, it should "be enough" to simply create... and in olden days, many artists had "patrons" who simply sponsored them to create. That said, people also tend to forget that thousands of aspiring artists back then did NOT find patrons and their dreams ended nowhere.

One of my personal concerns about art and its future is the decrease in the number of "patrons of the arts" out there... both as buyers and as sponsors. Artists have to be far more self-reliant today than even 150 years ago. Back then, it was "cool" to sponsor art... these days, rich people want to sponsor sports figures.

too true.. I will organize myself a little better and perhaps get some work mounted :) thanks for your reply :)
