Dog Drawing [graphite]

in #art7 years ago

Hey guys, just finished this drawing. Some friends of mine for Christmas they have a family rule that one of the gifts has to be hand made (not by them, ha - just someone) and so they asked me to do a quick drawing of their family dog for one of their brothers. So, here it is!

This was done will all graphite. I don't normally draw dogs (or any animals!) so this was kind of interesting for me to try out, rendering fur is a sort of strange thing to try to achieve when you have light reflections. I went with a bit more of a "rough" style as opposed to a smoother rendering.

Nice drawing this is amazing :D

thank you, I appreciate it!

Oh, I like that very much! I find drawing dogs quite difficult. I like your style. The texture and shading is beautiful. Following you for more!

thanks! My ultimate goal is to start recording some art tutorials showing exactly what I'm doing; but first i have to upgrade my camera, but stay tuned!

Seems that we have some things in common! I'm also planning a tutorial. Ok, looking forward to your tutorials! Good luck!

Hey! me gusta tu dibujo. La dirección de los trazos tan sutiles. <3
Muy bonito.
Espero verte por mi blog, tengo un par de dibujos que me gustaría que vieras.

thank you very much :)

I love it, he looks like a very good boy!

he's actually been kind of bad boy peeing around the house....but he is really nice!

Very nice

thanks! ever since I switched accounts I've sort of been slacking on steempunk, i gotta get back into that!

Damn son!! You just keep upping your game! The pencils are on point! Your range is so ridiculous some might regard it as unfair. I, for one, am grateful that I am witnessing your talents in full display. Your clean lines really captured the fur, and the rough approach really elevated this. The emotion on the dog's eyes feels so real. Very moving!

(not by them, ha - just someone)

HAHAHA! Until now I'm still chuckling at this clause.

(or any animals!)

Not even your cats? I would've thought your cats would be an exception.

thanks again! I actually don't like doing straight up graphite drawings just because they take so long and the more I've branched out in other mediums the more I have liked combining them together; but pencil drawing is really the base of all art, so it's always good to practice :)
I will draw my cats when they actually agree that I am their master and not just a pawn in their life; so far that hasn't happened.

Really? I think graphite actually likes you! No, seriously. I am in awe of every art you post. And I'm not saying that because we're planning an epic collab. I feel like I should thank you every day for getting in touch with me when you did!

So that's a no then haha! I feel like the universe would experience a fiery heat death before cats succumb to humans.

My main complaint with graphite is just that it takes so long to complete a picture, but I actually do like the medium if you take "time" out of the equation. I've been thinking recently about the collab, trying to think what art style I'm going go with...trying to think how i might incorporate Photoshop into it for maybe the backgrounds or effects. I have no idea, but it's fun to think about.

Cats are the true rulers. The Egyptians knew what was up.

I think PS comes into play in terms of the panels and the dialogue. The background and effects could work to. Helps minimize the effort somehow. Up to you if you want to tweak the colors digitally. I'm totally cool either way. When I find time, I'm going to arrange short pitches to show you. Then, you could pick from those what you want to prioritize. I mostly have drafts, so I'll write full scripts for the stuff you pick. There's one there where I've always thought would look great with a watercolor style. That's why I was so amazed when I saw yours haha!

The Egyptians were just too advanced for their time!

definitely looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Just finishing up some (well, a lot) replies and I'll head back to the discussion. So many ideas floated around my head over the weekend!

Excellent quick sketch! The rougher style really works well on this one. It makes me think of an old black and white photo.

thanks! I felt the "rougher" style worked well for a dog

Oh, that pun almost got away from me, LOL good one!

Someone is going to be happy with their gift. This is so special. I love the job you did. I think you captured the coat perfectly.

Thank you very much! I gave it to the person who asked for it last night and she seemed very pleased with it so that is always a good sign!

Sometimes it's tough to give a gift you've made - not being sure if it's good enough or that they will like it - it's very personal isn't it!! So glad she was pleased!! I for sure would have been very touched.

I hate doing commissions and generally don't because they are way too stressful lol, but maybe I will get over that some day; actually I guess i'm taking baby steps since i'm working on another commission right now lol

I know what you mean. I paint furniture occasionally. I was given an antique oak claw foot table to paint - to make it look like concrete....STRESS!!! I like to paint for me - no stress.

Well done!!

What a beautiful animal portrait. Those are some fine strokes and great shading technique

thank you for the compliments :)

Very nice rendering of the fur!

thank you, i'm pretty happy with how it turned out

Wow! So simplistic, yet beautiful! And I love the concept of all gifts having to be hand made. Christmas with those fellas has to be extremely entertaining :-) Keep up the good work! Followed.

thanks! I agree, it is a pretty good idea!
