Yes, definitely, the spirit and the determination to finish. Finished, not perfect. But I wouldn't associate painting with hard work. It shouldn't feel as something filled with obstacles, something you might not accomplish. I am still learning and practising, and I have had so many mishaps, but I try to let them go, because I don't want to let any hardships spoil the thing I love. :)
