Many people know the picture "Praying Hands" by Albrecht Dürer . Although little known a touching story of its creation. Maybe it's just a beautiful legend, but very beautiful one.
In the 15th century in a small village near Nuremberg a family lived. There were eighteen (!) children.
⠀
In order to feed such a large family a father who was a goldsmith worked for eighteen hours a day. He worked in a jewelry shop, but also undertook any paid work. Despite the almost hopeless situation two children had a dream. They wanted to develop their talent in art, but they knew that their father would not be able to send any of them to study at the Academy in Nuremberg.
⠀
After a long night's discussion, the two boys entered into an agreement with each other. They decided to throw a coin. The loser would go to work in the mines and would pay for studying of his brother. And then, when the brother graduated, he should have paid for his brother's education, who would work in the mine, selling his work, and if necessary, also working in mines.
They threw a coin on Sunday morning. Albrecht Durer won and went to Nuremberg.
❤️❤️❤️
Albert went to work in dangerous mines, and for four years he paid for his brother's studying, whose work in the Academy immediately became a sensation. Albrecht's engravings and his paintings surpassed even the works of many of his professors. By the time he completed his studies, he had already begun to earn good money.

⠀
When the young artist returned to his village, the Dürer family arranged a festive dinner on the lawn to celebrate the triumphant return of Albrecht. After a long and unforgettable dinner, which was full of music and laughter, Albrecht rose from his place of honor at the head of the table to raise a toast to his beloved brother, who had sacrificed so many years to fulfill Albrecht's dream. At the end of his speech, he said: "Now, Albert, my blessed brother, has come your turn. Now you can go to Nuremberg for your dream, and I will take care of you. "
😢😢😢
All turned with anticipation to Albert, who was sitting at the other end of the table. Tears flowed down his pale face, he shook his head, sobbing and repeating: "No ... no ... no ... no." Finally he got up and wiped away his tears. He looked at the faces of the people he loved so much, and then, raising his hands to his face, said softly: "No, brother. I can not go to Nuremberg. It's too late for me. Look! Look what these four years in the mines have done to my hands! The bones on each finger were broken at least once, and recently I had arthritis in my right hand that I can not even hold the glass while toast, and even more so I can not draw beautiful lines on parchment or canvas with a pencil or a brush. No, brother, it's too late for me. "
🙏🙏🙏
⠀
To pay tribute to Albert for his entire sacrifice, Albrecht drew the rough hands of his brother, aimed at the sky. He called his powerful picture very simple: "Hands." But the whole world almost immediately opened its heart to this masterpiece and called this picture "The Hands of the Prayer."
⠀
More than 450 years have passed. And thanks to this victim, now hundreds of portraits, drawings with a pen or silver pencil, watercolor, drawings with a coal pencil and engravings on copper hang in every great museum in the world.
How do you think could be this story true?
