About my work.
Relatively small assemblages are built from flowers, weeds and plants combined with other natural materials that I find in the local bushland or surrounding urban streets.
During the creation of these pieces ~ The process is incredibly magical. Thoughts of anything else are silenced.
I literally fall in love with individual pieces of nature that I'm using, as well as how the different elements greet, merge, compliment and/or contrast with each other.
Hundreds of photographs that can't possibly capture the beauty I see with my eyes are taken at different stages of the arrangement. Then ideas/thoughts/words that come to me, as I look at the resulting images give form to a new expression ~ Short 'poems.'

These are really lovely, @allyinspirit - the energy you describe interacting with and opening to reminds me of my own state during creative endeavours; and also reminds me very much of the pure intent and focus my daughter has always exhibited when being creative. As a little child she used to create assemblage pieces on a daily basis. Seeing your work reminds me of that innocent, wondering, open quality - which is lovely, as I really miss hers! (She draws endlessly now, and is a fabulous artist in pencil, pen and ink, but the assemblage and collaged stopped around the time she got really into that instead...) ❤
Really pleased you connect with the 'spirit' of my work @jaytaylor ~ After working with many art modalities, I've come to understand that it's the 'presence' one has while working that really matters.
When we set up the conditions we need: Some like music and stimulation ~ I like quietness and a clear space (as much as possible) and essential oils, to bring about a degree of stillness within ~ We allow the creative spirit freedom. Conversely when we're totally immersed in our art ~ Our love and focus will bring us to an inner uplifting.
I started working with collage using b&w photocopies and natural objects, at a time when life presented me with other demands and I didn't have the necessary time for detailed work. I felt a new freedom within and it was WONDERFUL. Wasn't long before I wanted to use my own imagery in the collages, so went back to art school to learn photography.
Our 'assemblages' don't need to become exhibited art pieces, but are wonderful just to do, to play, to connect to the 'energy' that can guide us.
It's a shame that your daughter is no longer playing with assemblage ~ Even though she's now working with other mediums. But you never know where our 'creative spirit' will take us ~ One thing we as artists come to know is that it will ALWAYS be there, even as it shifts from one expression/manifestation to another.
