The Blue Mosque in Istanbul

in #architecture7 years ago

The blue Mosque also known as Sultan Ahmet Mosque is located in Istanbul, Turkey. It is very popular for its beautiful architecture and most of its architecture resembles many aspects of the Hagia Sophia which is believed to be built by the Byzantine Christians. After the Ottomans conquered the land many Islamic architectural elements were added to Hagia Sophia and mostly all the mosques resemble the same architecture of Hagia Sophia. Best example of appropriation of Christian architectural into Islam.
