The 70 million pounds mansion that nobody wants

in #architecture7 years ago

I had forgotten my "architectural journalism" hobby until I came across something I had written in 2011, inspired by an article I read:

Why wouldn't anyone want such a house that is full of so much history and is a testament to globalization? I certainly would! (if it wasn't for the small matter of 70 million pounds...how much is that in Kenya Shillings? No! Don't even tell me :-)

This mansion has had its day in front of the camera and has been owned (or almost owned) by billionaries from all over the world - including Africa! (Egypt to be precise).

It has survived a fire and a money laundering scandal!

I certainly wouldn't mind owning this mansion. What would I do with "27 bathrooms...58 acres of landscaped gardens, an underground squash court, a bowling alley..." all totalling to 50,000 sq ft of Surrey real estate?

Rock concerts. Film sets. Film school. Shelter the homeless...the possibilities are endless!
