In Finland we have wooden buildings and proper winters (not every year though). They're warm when you heat them up properly - and if they have proper insulation! The wood up in the north is a traditional building material with lots of perks: for instance, the apartments rarely get mold as it's porous and somewhat breathable material.

Also wood is a very durable material for housing, at least the stuff that grows here and in our climate.
