Interesting buildings - I like the look of the wooden structures but I wonder how warm they are in the middle of the cold Russian winter?!
In Finland we have wooden buildings and proper winters (not every year though). They're warm when you heat them up properly - and if they have proper insulation! The wood up in the north is a traditional building material with lots of perks: for instance, the apartments rarely get mold as it's porous and somewhat breathable material.
Also wood is a very durable material for housing, at least the stuff that grows here and in our climate.
