Hay una expresión que dice "Todos los caminos conducen a Roma". Hace dos mil años los romanos habían construido una red de calzadas y vías por todo su imperio. Abarcaba la totalidad de la Europa moderna y el Norte de África.
There is an expression that says "All roads lead to Rome". Two thousand years ago the Romans had built a network of roads and tracks throughout their empire. It covered the whole of modern Europe and North Africa.
Más parecido que a una red, se parecía a una raíz de una planta. Donde la parte más gruesa era la capital, Roma. Desde ella podían mandar tropas y correos hasta la aldea más alejada. Y desde ella mandar productos o materias primas necesarias para mantener el imperio.
More like a root of a plant than a network. The thickest part of it was the capital, Rome. From there they could send troops and couriers to the furthest village. And from there they could send products or raw materials needed to maintain the empire.
La calle principal y el origen de la red de calzadas del imperio romano era la via Sacra. Situada en el centro de Roma. De aquí podías dirigirte al punto más alejado. Esta calzada romana se conserva regular y solamente se encuentran varios tramos. Está cerca del pueblo de Jimena donde había un fuerte con su guarnición que defendía el Sur de Hispania. Por ella podían transitar sin los problemas de los caminos de tierra como son el barro, los charcos de agua o la vegetación.
