APRIL FOOLS LEGACY(FAKE NEWS DAY) - IS IT SAFE TO BELIVE ANYTHING YET? -

in #april7 years ago

Its been a number of days since our anual ritual 'Fake News Day'.

For one day everything you read on line should not be taken with a pinch of salt, but instead ignored completely. The tradition is innocent enough, but I would argue that its no longer funny.

The problem is that, while April 1st is just one day, news sites have a habit of lingering around long after this date.

We are overwhelmed with a variety of conflicting viewpoints and arguments for any subject online. Working out which is the 'True' truth is hard work. Its not helpful to have a designated day when virtually everyone thinks its hilarious to tweet/facebook and youtube articles that are the oposite of their views.

This flies in the face of any of the 'So called' attempts to filter 'Fake news'. It makes no sense in this day and age.

I'm sure some reading this, will think i'm overreacting. It could be argued that I can't take a joke.

I would reply by saying that the joke is no longer funny.

Most youtubes are not original in their 'April fools Pranks', they usually consist of saying they are leaving youtube or deleting their channel, or some other unlikely claim.

The real issue is that most don't delete these pranks after the april fools day. Its a tradition thats become annoying and I'd be happy for it to halt.

But judging by the sheer amount of bull that has been put out over the past few years it shows no signs of slowing down.

I'm interested to know if others think 'Fake News Day' is a bad idea too
