This is a must these modern days. 2FA all the way, every step. I don't even remember how many years ago since I discovered yubikey. Read more at yubico.com
Several alternatives. I use a second unit, as a backup, in a safe place. Also most services have a secret way, how to connect by other, optional way, and dissable the lost key.
This chip does not hold important data inside. It is like a one time password generator, or a 2FA. In reality you can use even more factors, not only two. 1-what you know (password) 2- what you have (smartphone sms, googel 2fa, yubikey) 3 - what you are (fingerprint, eye iris, ear shape, cardio microcurrents) 4 - where you am (limit by IP, country, hardware mac, geo coordinates etc),. The more factors = the harder to break, or go around
I have been an avid YubiKey user for several years now but their recent switch to closed source is against the philosophy of privacy/security. YubiKey is definitely one of the best designed U2F FIDO certified hardware key, but I condemn their decision and hope that they realize the concern and open source their code base again.
that looks cool! i dont know what this is... I will look it up right now...
